Hope grounded in the words and actions of Jesus is at the core of the Good Shepherd community. Hope grows personally from worship and study. Those opportunities at Good Shepherd are:

  • Sunday worship at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Holy Communion is offered at both services on the first and third Sundays. Sunday worship during June, July & August is 9 a.m.
  • Thursday worship is 6:30 p.m. in the summer and early fall with communion on the first Thursday.
  • Special services uplift members and guests at Thanksgiving, Christmas, during Lent, the season of preparation for Easter, and Easter Sunday.
  • Children's singing is also a large portion of the Sunday School opening each Sunday which prepares youth to sing during worship once a month.
  • Choir for all ages meets Wednesdays at 7 p.m. [Singers may participate as time allows.]
  • Sunday School is age 3 through grade 5; 9:15 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. the second Sunday in September through the third Sunday in May:
  • Holy Communion preparation is during grade 3. Confirmation (Affirmation of Baptism) is during grades 6, 7 and 8.
  • High School teens (grades 9-12) meet weekly with Breakfast Out on the first Sunday.
  • Adult Forum meets in the Fellowship Hall to cover varied subjects, like "Knowing Jesus", The Reformation, "Living Better" and The Islam Faith.
  • Bible studies for women are the first and third Wednesday at noon, the third Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., and the fourth Monday at 7 p.m.
  • Bible study for men is each Friday at 6:30 a.m. at the Original Pancake House.

Hope thrives by reaching out in fellowship and service. Here are some of those activities:

  • Greeting members and guests as they enter the church.
  • Ushering during worship.
  • Reading Bible lessons and prayers during worship.
  • Assisting with refreshments to enjoy after worship.
  • Teaching, usually team-style, during the Sunday School hour or Vacation Bible School.
  • Helping with educational programs in other ways.
  • Provide nursery care to enable mothers to teach as well as provide care during worship services.
  • Set up supplies for Holy Communion
  • Help with sanctuary decorations at Christmas.
  • Deliver altar flowers to those who are ill or grieving.
  • Deliver information packets to first-time visitors who are looking for a church home.
  • Help with various forms of advertising or outreach.
  • Assist with monthly youth activities for: Kindergarten thru Grade 5, Grades 6, 7, & 8, or High School.
  • Men's Coffee Group meets each Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the choir room, near the southwest door.
  • Quilts are assembled most Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. for distribution through Lutheran World Relief along with school and health kits, clothing, and blankets donated by members and friends of the congregation.
  • Fellowship Committee organizes various events through out the year, such as New-Member brunches, an ice-cream social, hayrack rides, Wednesday evening suppers during Lent, concert receptions, and Roundtable Meals, a rotation of 7 or 8 people who bring food to gather over a meal at an agreed-upon time and place.
  • "60 Something" luncheon is held on the first Wednesday of September, December, February, and May.
  • Property Committee arranges a spring and fall workday for the both the interior and exterior of the church building as well as other maintenance such as mowing, gardening, and snow removal.
  • Service Committee supports the outreach of empty tomb of Champaign by scheduling people to make weekly food deliveries. At Christmas, gifts are arranged for foster children through Lutheran Social Service of Illinois and for the clients of Safe House, a local drug-interdiction program.

Careful, caring management of time, talent, and treasure is encouraged through sermons and other messages, both written and spoken, by those who are willing to share all what God has done in their lives, through Jesus.
