Discipleship Committee

The Discipleship Committee’s goal is to support the spiritual growth of all GSLC members. Many of the official duties of the committee involve educating the youth of the church from ages 3 through high school. Members also serve by learning alongside youth on Sundays, working on holiday programs, and helping out with vacation bible school. The committee’s programs include: Sabbath Sundays, Confirmation, High School, and Vacation Bible School.

In addition, the committee is involved with organizing field trips so that youth can experience God’s grace out in the world. This committee plans trips to CarlinvilleLutheran Outdoor Ministry Center, and Leadership Lab at Augustana College. These camps, retreats, and leadership schools are places where space is created to experience the living God.

Jesus’ disciples gathered for the breaking of bread and fellowship and we seek to do the same through our monthly gatherings in one another’s homes for food and mutual encouragement. We also participate in feeding and clothing the homeless and hungry in our community on a regular basis which allows us to share God’s grace with our neighbors.

Through the hospitality of others Jesus and his disciples were blessed and welcomed into other people’s homes. We plan a variety of fundraisers that allow the youth in our congregation to raise money for future trips and experience receiving God’s grace from the body of believers.

If you are interested in helping with any of our education programs, please contact the Discipleship Chairs.
